Date Calculator
Add or subtract days, weeks, months from a date. Calculate the difference between two dates.
About Date Calculator
A date calculator helps you add or subtract days, weeks, or months from a given date, or find the number of days between two dates. Date arithmetic can be surprisingly tricky due to varying month lengths, leap years, and calendar rules. This tool eliminates manual counting and potential errors, making it invaluable for project planning, event scheduling, deadline tracking, and pregnancy due date estimation.
How to Use
Choose your calculation mode: 'Add/Subtract' to find a date a certain number of days, weeks, or months from a start date, or 'Difference' to find the span between two dates. Enter the relevant dates and values, then click calculate. The result shows the computed date or the difference in days, weeks, months, and business days.
Formula / Key Equations
Date addition/subtraction uses calendar-aware logic that adjusts for month-end rollovers and leap years. Business day calculation excludes weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and optionally public holidays. Days between dates is a simple subtraction of Julian day numbers, which accounts for all calendar irregularities.
Common Use Cases
Project managers use it to calculate deadlines and milestones. Event planners use it for countdown timers. Pregnant women use it to track trimesters. Travelers use it to plan trip durations. Financial professionals use it to calculate payment periods, loan terms, and bond maturity dates. Contract managers use it to track agreement expiration dates.
Limitations
The business days calculation follows a US-style Monday-Friday workweek by default and does not account for public holidays unless manually adjusted. It does not support custom workweek configurations (e.g., Sunday-Thursday in some Middle Eastern countries). Date calculations are based on the Gregorian calendar only.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the date calculator handle leap years?
Leap years are handled automatically. A year is a leap year if divisible by 4, except for century years which must be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not. The calculator uses these rules for all date computations.
What are business days?
Business days (also called working days) typically refer to Monday through Friday, excluding weekends. Our calculator counts business days between two dates, but does not account for public holidays since these vary by country and region.
Can I calculate weeks or months between two dates?
Yes. When calculating the difference between two dates, the result shows the span in total days, weeks (including partial weeks), and approximate months. Note that months are approximate since they vary in length.
How do I add months to a date correctly?
The calculator adds calendar months. For example, adding 1 month to January 31 gives February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), which is the last day of the next month. This prevents invalid dates like February 30.
Is this date calculator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up needed. All date calculations are performed locally in your browser.
